Like it or not, it’s going to be a Casey kinda weekend ;-)

 

Here’s a few faves from his stash.

It’s interesting how he switches from documenting his every day life via seemingly benign photographs of the city to quite evocative ones.

I’ll see if I can resurrect a few of his threads over the weekend.

Wish I asked for prints of these. We did a print exchange back in the day between Casey, Jeff, Eduardo and myself. It was quite cool. Jeff shot film so he actually gave us prints he developed himself. All this happened before this Hokkaido series was taken. As much as Casey was a film guy, he gave us digital prints. I should have asked for prints from his film stash!

Its friendships like these that The Purists and Watchprosite have facilitated all these years and the powers that be probably weren’t even aware!

Here’s to Bill, Nico, Mike, Art and the rest of the gang who keep the machinery humming without which we would not have crossed paths with each other, online or off. A big thank you to all you gents and may our tribe “live long and prosper.”

...because while living in Tokyo, we rarely had the chance to visit the rural areas. They were like mini documentaries : )

I do remember this series, and marveled at how tough he was, to seek out the northern Japan winters in Hokkaido

Tokyo, Nagano, Hokkaido, etc, all the places that he traveled to. He had an eye and frame in mind that brings out the best in the mood and unique perspective in the photos he took. And i am also a fan of his annual top 10..
