In space is "image stabilization" required?

and does pressing the shutter cause the photographer to rotate?  It looks like the team has some support from Nikon.  Judging from the edge distortion the taking lens might have been a super wide ; ).

To be honest I haven't really followed the International Space Station activities... thanks for the link and reference...
