The triangle between roughly Dubai-Bagdad-Riyadh is thousands and thousands of square miles of desert.
The Arabs have, very appropriate, named it: The Great Empty
What draws me to it is the fact that what appears to be empty, isn’t that empty at all. Small bushes, empty streams that when it does rain become vibrant streams (wadi’s), small herds of camels or goats etc.
And in between some great areas that change constantly as the wind blows the sand dunes.
Not to far outside Dubai (45 min drive) is a “Desert Resort”. It looks exactly like a beach resort except no sea but a pool surrounded by the greenest grass you’ll ever see (Bab al Shams).
Maybe it also because of my time in the USA. I lived in northern Texas at the border with Oklahoma and half way between Dallas and Amarillo (Wichita Falls). Behind our house Texas wilderness for the next 50 miles. Loved it.
The other thing thats great about the desert is that nothing purifies the mind better after few weeks in the middle of hectic Dubai, then to pack your car early morning (before sunrise) with camera gear dalma food, compass, plenty plenty plenty of water and drive in the desert. Enjoy sunrise have a coffee and go back before its too hot.
Clears the mind

Isn’t it near Ras Al Khaimah? It looks very much like that. Another beautiful region is the desert near Al Ain at the frontier with Oman with plenty of oasis, you have to see it if you can and didn’t see it yet 😉. Enjoy it is a fascinating region... ...
You know the country

I have always been enamoured with desert landscapes. Interestingly you can get the same feeling in Greenland when you stand on the arctic ice. Colder and whiter though but not that much different.
