Spent the first day of the year on the Santa Monica beach, so had the opportunity to snap close to twenty good images of the celebratory environment ........ ...  

yes, those were clearly done mostly for artistic effect, and the last image of myself at the beach was taken by my first door neighbor with his Olympus point-and-shoot camera .... Cheers, Filip

Reminds me of when we lived there 20 years ago. What struck me about your first few pics is the number of seagulls!! Hope none "spotted" you.

Fortunately, I was not defecated upon by any of the birds , the weather was absolutely glorious right around noon when I went out for the stroll. Later on in the early afternoon there were a few 'waves' of passing rain.... Thanks for looking, happy new ye... 

With the wind and the hangovers combining to keep most people off the beach, you had a great day for photography.

Although the Pier itself was pretty busy so most of the images are beachside. I did end up finishing off today with a glass of double rye whiskey ....

The structure makes for one of the most interesting settings in the series. When you get your new camera, it would make a great test location with different lenses (focal lengths). High / low tide, inclement weather, etc. Worth a revisit. Casey .

That underneath the Pier is one of the most frequently photographed locations in the film business. From the very first footage that ended up starting YouTube around 2006 (a mini-series) which concluded there, to more recent arthouse fare like Terrence Ma... 

With that many sea gulls, probably not a good idea to have snacks in your hands

That's why the City has so many signs warning people not to feed the birds ....
