You have such a broad range to choose from with Patek, at any level of its catalog, that without further input it's almost impossible to advise...but let me give you what's always a good suggestion with Patek in a reasonable price range: a Worldtimer!
The current generation (5230G and R) is exquisitely elegant and still broadly available at ADs with little to no effort. The earlier modern iterations, 5110 and 5130, which are also big favorites of our forum, are also relatively a bargain on the secondary market. With a little bit of luck, you might even still find some 5130s hidden in some AD safe! ;-)

I owned a 5960a for a while, and I definitely wore it.
There's no big quandary for me, though. I'm not a big enough collector to own something *purely* for collectability's sake. If I'm not comfortable wearing it, *even if* I love it collectability-wise, I won't keep it for long.

I think both are very satisfying to wear. But since you already have a perpetual calendar, instead of the 3970 maybe you could find a manual Patek chronograph. Easier on budget and you won’t have to deal with keeping the date correct. The world timers are...
