i wish my non-existent girlfriend would buy me a PP as a gift! so far, i yet have to meet a woman who appreciates "the finer things in life" (i.e., PP)...
anyway: no PP makes a man look "old". however, a watch is a very personal thing, and unless your husband-to-be develops a taste for a PP, it's unlikely he'll wear it, or if he does so, just because it is a gift from you. the best thing, in my humble opinion, would be to go choose the watch together.
5 years ago, if my parents would have given me a PP, guess what: i might have thrown it away. because at that time i wasn't interested in watches at all, not to mention PP.
