I can attest to losing watches to my wife the same way. One random day she tries on a few of my watches and the next thing I know, they disappear from my watchbox and strangely reappear in her's LOL. The funny thing is after she confiscated them she would smile at me and say, possession is 9/10th of the law and she is French so that does not apply 
Too much LAW and ORDER or TV for her :-(

Luckily I have others to enjoy but one of these days I will use my ninja skills to try and move them back to my watchbox LOL

I have the same problem with my 17 year old son.
He’s hovering around the watch box like a vulture. I actually had to beat him away with a stick... I gave him a very old Breitling that I had many, many years ago. It seems to have calmed him down... for now...
