I definitely didn't assume it was a retail offer.

I definitely didn't assume either way; if it was an offer at retail, or an offer with markup. But definitely, my advice would apply to both scenarios. I will say, I'm not crazy about perpetual calendars - they're a pain to set and if you forget to put it on the winder (or in my most recent case, I put it on the winder but forgot to turn on the winder) you're in a world of hurt when you have to start wearing the watch again since you'd have to reset the whole display. I've decided in my personal case, that while I like the 240 QP movement, and it's one of my favorite perpetual calendar movements, I'm just not a perpetual calendar guy. And considering you already have the 5711 in steel blue, I would say this 5740 is NOT a must have. My favorite Nautilus is the 5712. It's just a little more complex than the 5711. It's assymetrical. And the 5712 is kind of cool in its own right. I would say enjoy your 5711 steel blue and save your money for something TRULY fantastic. SOmething nobody else has. If you think about it, Nautiluses aren't that rare. Patek Philippe has made well over a thousand of them a year on average the past 20 years. There's literally tens of thousands of them out in the world. Maybe save your money for something TRULY fantastic and TRULY special. Something museum quality or close to museum quality. But that's just my thought process, and who can say if I'm right or wrong. In either case, you have a "good problem" to have.  And either way, you probably can't make a majorly wrong decision.

The 5740

 By: Watches_passion : September 8th, 2022-16:49
Hi everyone, I am seriously considering the 5740 after letting go on the idea of 5711/1R. Any feedback from the experts here? I have one being offered to me so i am considering it. Thanks in advance. ...

i would go for it

it it is offered at retail price. Otherwise i guess there is still too much of a premium even though the watch is great thin avec very beautiful .

You know this would not happen

I'm not a nautilus guy, but if I were you I'd get it

Considering you're asking yourself the question...

Considering you're asking yourself the question would indicate you're not totally convinced it's the right one for you. I've never bought a watch where I needed encouragement from others - that's simply an indication that I didn't like it enough on my own...

Thanks Patrick…

But at the price offered, i felt i should ask… as you can imagine, this is not a retail offer. I did like the the 5711/1R but i felt given the price difference, the 5740 would be more interesting. I also own a 5711 steel blue.

I definitely didn't assume it was a retail offer.

I tried one on (a friend's)...

...and it is a special piece. The only Nautilus that really appeals to me... I was surprised by the weight and would have preferred stainless steel, but one can't have everything : )

+1

I let my 5711 go last year to get this instead!

Well we all love it at retail; so it really comes down

If you didn’t get this piece; what would you get? I got to try one on this week and it was awesome. As others said; it’s super thin for being a PC; and it’s WG so it has the left and less bling; but all nautilus are bling bow no matter what metal!

Given the money involved, I, as the Patek moderator, welcome your question !👍. Just because you might not be totally convinced, our forum is exactly

the place to help you decide. I agree with you that 5740 is a much more desired watch given its complication with such a thin case. The heft is also great just like the 5711R. For me, I would take 5740 on a relative basis with 5711R. Let us know what you ...

Thanks Glau and everyone…

Still thinking of it. Will let you know.

I do enjoy wearing it but it’s a pretty “jiggly” timepiece … doesn’t really feel like a solid gold watch like a Vacheron or Rolex “feel solid” .. put on a platinum president and you get the idea I’m trying to convey… It’s in the winder most of the time… B...

Thanks…

Is this because it is white gold?

No…

 By: kamdaswani : September 13th, 2022-02:11
It’s just too light .. lacks density / heft hence its offers little satisfaction as a “solid gold watch”

Interesting comment ! To me, I love the 5740’s

heft for such a thin watch.

Interesting..

When i tried i felt it is heavy for a nautilus. I have the 5990 steel and the 5740 looked heavier

i think i am...
