Hello,
I am the proud owner of a White Gold 5107. I have admired both watches for a long time. Both are stunners and would make most collectors very happy.
The 5107 was released in 2002 in the large for Patek size of 37mm. It came with a 315 auto movement.
I have this watch in White Gold and I have never looked back.
Some Patek collectors have disliked a Calatrava with crown guards - I however see this as a big positive. The 5107 is a modern version of a classic dress watch.
I also own a traditional Vacheron thin dress watch (ref 6495) - this follows all the "rules" but is no where as stunning as the Patek.
The 5107 was replaced by the 5127 in around 2005/6. Early 5127s had the same 315 movement however this was later changed to the 324 movement as Patek updated the auto 315 movement.
Personally there is some debate whether the 5107 is more beautiful than the 5127. They both look very similar - with the bezel being slightly different. 5127 is more flatter.
The 5107 is available in White/Yellow and Rose Gold as well as Platinum. The 5127 was only available in the 3 gold choices.
The 5107 also spawned a jewelled variant called the 5108.
The 5127 was dropped by Patek around 2009 however it then made a comeback. It has been returned to the Patek website and also the catalogue.
The 5107 & 5127 follow on from the lines of the world time 5110.
Personally I find the 5107 and 5127 to be the most beautiful Pateks ever made in the last 20 years. They have an honesty that complications can never have. They also have an ego that is discrete and is what Patek Philippe stands for.
I love my Patek 5107 more than any car, girlfriend (besides my current wife) and experience.
The 5107 and 5127 are an amazing piece to behold and treasure.
I have owned luxury cars with cost many times more than my Patek 5107 - however the Patek has given me much more pride and happiness. I love my 5107.
