...I think I have a decent feel for what is sensible whilst wearing and what is not, and am comfortable that a 5980 should be able to cope with what I'll put it through for the most part. I guess that the finer the movement, the thinner the elements etc, then the less room for minor slippages there is. I'm thinking for example if a Rolex "cog" is 10% (made up figure) thicker than a Patek one then that's 10% extra room for slight movement, due to absorbing a shock, before it pops out of it's location and no longer drives the next cog.
