Your reply was exactly what I was looking for from the group. No offense to NT. But I already know some purists are negative about the chin. You make excellent points that makes me more comfortable buying the chin model should I move forward. You said the 014/019 dials are the same except for the chin, in articles I have read talk specifically about the 019 dial being so nice, do you know for a fact they are the same? Thanks again...Jim

5270G/014 blue dial (with chin) vs 5270G/019 blue dial (no chin)

Hello everyone and happy Friday! I am looking into buying the PP 5270G blue dial and want to ask your thoughts. First question: Is the blue dial on the 014 and the 019 the same blue dial or are they different? Second question: This one is probably asked a...

NO CHIN

NT.

Great question Jim, I faced a similar dilemma not too long ago. At first I passed on the 014, but after further careful analysis I arrived at the following conclusion.

 By: Langeholic : May 4th, 2018-14:33
The 019 seems very much in demand, I say this because I never fail to find 5270’s in other metal or dial colours, yet I have rarely come across the 019 in stock and I interact with dozens of AD’s a year. However the production numbers of the 019, like the...

Apart from chin, there are two more differences.

 By: joenghenry : May 4th, 2018-20:44
1. The tachymeter of 019 has two railways, like 5970. 014 only has one railway. 2. 019 has line shaped subdial hands, 014 has leaf hands.

Apologise for the misinformation

Thank you for correcting!

No need to apologize. Just sharing of information on this beautiful reference.

Happy hunting of Patek perpetual chrono. Best, Henry

I hate to be provocative...

 By: Mostel : May 4th, 2018-17:44
but... are we saying a design no one or virtually no one admires is the one he should get... because it had a limited run --limited because Patek recognized virtually no one liked it and quickly corrected it? If yes, let's say that.

No chin. Because I like it more.

Imho..

 By: Fjan : May 4th, 2018-23:27
When you come to resell some day, the 019 will be that much easier to let go since it is more commonly accepted (even Patek think it is hard to sell hence they introduce 019 soon after)... the advantage when resell of the 014 will come much later maybe 20...

The liquidity of 019 will be higher for sure in the coming years.

 By: Langeholic : May 5th, 2018-00:59
But due to higher production numbers, the price will remain fairly stable based on supply and demand, unless demand really outstrips supply, which I don’t see happening for this model anytime soon. The scarcity of the 014 will eventually support its price...

Thanks to everyone

For you honest input and for pointing out some of the differences I didn’t realize. The pricing I can get on the 014 is much better than the 019 and I am a long term buyer willing to wait for the 014’s eventually comeback because of it’s limited run...Jim...

I would do the same...

 By: jonrus : May 5th, 2018-20:02
It’s an ugly duckling in the short term. I spoke with someone in PP who felt the same. Time will tell.

For what it is worth....

 By: Langeholic : May 6th, 2018-00:06
I recently spoke to two independent reputable, Patek secondary dealers and the first timepiece they suggested buying (despite not having in stock) was the 5270 with “chin” in any dial colour. This was totally unsolicited nor do they know what is in my col...

I am not certain whether referring chin version of 5270g to 5020 is accurate or not.

 By: joenghenry : May 6th, 2018-04:49
The reason of 5020 not very popular at her time is due to the less popularity of rectangular vs circular shape of chassis at that time. The TV shape however is more accepted by watch collectors nowadays. But the reason of the unpopularity of chin version ...

You are missing the point of an analogy, not a comparison...

 By: jonrus : May 6th, 2018-04:58
The point of the analogy is that a model that was unpopular during its production subsequently became a collectible due to its rarity.

The 019 is equally short in production.

 By: Pythagoras : May 7th, 2018-16:08
the 019 was released to correct the 014, and only after a year, Patek discontinued the 019. So I think, it would be wrong to assume that the 014 is fewer than the 019.

I believe the 019 run was longer...

 By: Langeholic : May 24th, 2018-17:33
if I am not mistaken the 019 was released in 2015 and only discontinued in the back end of 2017 or beginning of 2018. Despite that I imagine there aren’t more than 500 in circulation. The 013 was released in 2014 and only ever in production for 9 months o...
