Wow! This is a great forum. I only posted a couple of hours ago and already have some great responses. Thank you.
To MW: Several things attract me to the 5970. In no particular order:
* My personal view is that this is the most attractive watch I have ever seen. Tastes differ, but this watch suits mine perfectly. I just love the way it looks. Classic. Elegant. Somewhat understated, but with a little "ping." To me, the 5970 gets it right.
* The reputation of Patek as a watch maker of the highest quality.
* The desire to own a true heirloom piece that can be passed down in the family.
* My belief that Patek watches tend to hold their value over time better than most other brands. (But believe me, I am not under the illusion that watches in general, including Pateks, are wise investments and would not spend $110k on a watch for this reason alone).
* The desire to own at least one "stretch" piece. Something that you don't see everyday. Don't get me wrong, I love my Daytona and Submariner, but I am attracted to the idea of owning something that is truly special. Something that is not being worn by half the VP's at Goldman, MS etc.
