I believe the model 5053 was introduced in 2001 and discontinued in 2007.
IMO it was one of the nicest and most unique of the "basic" calatava designs. The dial is extremely elegant and legible, near perfect size and proportion, beautiful breguet numerals and hands, and very unique hinged caseback. The "officer's" watch as it was referred was one of the few calatravas that i felt looked equally good casual as formal. Personally I've never been a fan of the date function as it often ruins the dial symmetry, but this watch pulls it off as well as any.
Much prefer this version to it's successor - bigger is not always better!

Does anybody know which year the Patek ref: 5053 was introduced? my understanding is that it got discontinued in 2005 or 2006, when it was replaced by 5153. I am unable to find reliably the year of introduction. Thanks for the help.
