Patek Philippe

sure.....

from my perspective, the 5970 would be my choice between those two.....doesn't make me right and you wrong...just a difference in our respective personal tastes.....

Rarity in itself is irrelevant......supply relative to demand, however, is a determinant factor. And when a watch is in limited supply but where demand swamps that supply, you have a situation where a watch becomes very coveted. That, in itself, doesn't make it iconic....but it is a refelction of its status that it became so.

I don't think there is a good reason to debate whether a watch is or is not iconic. Ultimately, the collector base does that...what we think is neither here nor there. In my mind, the 5070 earmarked a new and bold re-entry (after 40 years) of PP into the field of simple chronographs...it did so with a model that broke the existing framework....and it did so in tribute to a watch that is legendary. When I was at the museum tour, the guide pointed out the 2512 in the museum stating that this was the inspiration for the 5070. To my mind, that makes teh 5070 very special.
