As a 25 year manhattan veteran, I assume you're not asking about safety because 1) all your watches are expensive, 2) you're only taking one watch ( ie it's on your person), 3) you don't seem like the ride-the-subway-at-midnight type of guy, and 4) you're not leaving the comfortable confines of the ues, midtown, w village/soho (unless you decide to be really cool and go to the les or alphabet city, both of which are mostly gentrified).
So then it comes down to style. Definitely white metal (understated elegance) and a watch that is appropriate for shopping in the afternoon as well as a dinner at Per Se. For that, the 5070 is best but you don't have it in white metal. Maybe one of your many 5970s.
And yes, lange makes one heck of a watch, especially the datograph.
