So I hear Thierry speaking about “knowing watches” and “passion”.

Apr 04, 2020,10:31 AM

First, I don’t know much about Patek or Thierry. I’ve met him once at a dinner and spoke to him for maybe 2 minutes.  He was pleasant, as he should be when he is selling something.

But, my second hand knowledge of him learned through some pretty serious Patek collectors is that they doubt his passion, his eye for design and therefore his ability to steer Patek in the right direction.

So that very same accusation he throws in this article at other brand leaders is the exact same accusation I hear Patek collectors throw at him.

Thoughts, opinions etc from those of you close enough over the years and now to comment?

What an interesting read! I really hope to visit the Patek Philippe factory someday. I love their product and own several of their beautiful timepieces. Never met a Patek that I didn’t like! Thanks again!

The young one looks well fed.

I don’t think Thierry Stern misses a lot of meals. And neither do I! Got to meet him at the Patek exhibition in NYC a couple of years back. He’s a real Gentleman. Excellent ambassador for the Brand ( as well as the industry). ...

Nice pic!

Thank you for sharing. Did you wear a Patek during that meeting?

Absolutely!

I remember it well. I was wearing a 3940 with a dore’ dial.

Who is that ceo from the chamapgne who has no idea about watches?

Geoffroy Lefebvre from JLC?

So he might mean VC?

Its funny because PP changed its direction in recent years much more then VC actually.

Hearsay and opinion

Jay, Having met him only once, I have no reliable data, but I don't think hearsay regarding the opinions of "some pretty serious Patek collectors" amounts to reliable data either. From where I sit, the ongoing success of the brand is the best evidence of ...

Well, the “hearsay” is based on first hand interactions over several years.

It is coming from a group that seem to have the same opinion, group think perhaps. So that’s maybe something to consider. But it sounds like neither your or I are anywhere near close enough to have an opinion. And I bring this up now as it’s the opposite ...

Nice article by Foulkes.
