Patek Philippe

Ref. 3417

Debuting in 1958, this watch was Patek’s first antimagnetic model which was serially produced and produced in stainless steel; as such, collectors consider this to be Patek’s attempt at a ‘tool’ watch. To earn the ‘Amagnetic’ designation, Patek incorporated a soft iron cap over the movement and under the case back to resist magnetic fields. This example was produced in 1962.

The case is 35mm in diameter, 43mm lug to lug and about 11 mm in height.

While this dial has “Amagnetic” in raised enamel on it, not all models would. I personally prefer ones that do.

From 1958 to 1960, the 3417 was powered by calibre 12-AM 400. After this, calibre 27-AM 400 was used with upgrades such as a Gyromax balance and antimagnetic components in the escapement. The movement’s power reserve is about 40 hours, beats at 19,800 vibrations per hour and requires manual winding.

The case is of two body construction with straight downturned lugs and a crown with the Calatrava cross.

This is a dream watch for me and doubtless for many others on this forum.
