Patek Philippe 5110P in Boston

Deciding what watch to take on travels can be tricky. Much depends on what type of travel. If I am going swimming or up in the Alps, I will tend towards a watch that is more robust and definitely waterproof. On the other hand, if i am going to a city, I will err towards something different. Recently, I paid a one week visit to Boston and decided on the 5110P. I wanted a watch that would make it easy to see three time zones and also one that was a pleasure to wear. The 5110P worked superbly.

This was a boy's trip to Boston with my son, so we did all the normal stuff. He just graduated so it was a special trip. Went to a Red Sox game, visited Harvard, JP Licks, Museum of Fine Art, Science Museum, Peabody Museum, harbour cruise, Trinity Church. And so many superb restaurants.....superb.

Best ice cream I have ever tasted. Best milk shake I have ever tasted. Best hamburger ever. What a fantastic trip.....thoroughly enjoyed it. My first trip across the Atlantic for a decade.

The watch didn't disappoint either. I think that the longer I have collected watches, the more i have grown to realise that a true appreciation of any watch takes time. It needs to be experienced on the wrist for a prolonged period of time to really understand a watch and what it does. I have owned a 5110 in various guises for many years. The platinum version arrived in the last year. Yellow and white gold have gone before. I think I understand the 5110. It is a versatile watch. It has a strong personality and style about it. I like world time watches a lot, so no real need to compare it with other references as what does that actually achieve. Wearing a watch is an absolute experience when it is on your wrist.

Yes, as a travel watch, the 5110P worked very nicely indeed.
