I managed to take some decent macros of these 2 modern PP World Time, which are, IMO, the nicest World Time of the actual production.

The question is what is the most desirable between these 2 references...

Well, it's not about the movement, as the Caliber 240 is common to both watches.

Here, in the 5130:

There, in the 5110:

Even in the 5130 ( with a 2 mm bigger case ), the movement is not lost, and there is no inconvenient to see it in a bigger watch.

So, what would be the criteria that would make you go on one rather than on another?

1/ The size, IMO, has an important impact on the dial.

With its 37mm, the layout of the dial of the 5110 is maybe a bit more coherent, if you look at the center part, which has harmonious proportions with the outside part, where the name of the Cities of the world is written.

Here, the press files pic of the 5110:

2/ The layout and finish of the dials :

The differences are huge, here.

A precious Guillochage, or a simpler, but elegant Sunburst Dial ?

The 5110:

Now, let's have some macros of the 5130:

As you can see, the differences are so obvious that the watches seem to have a distinct personnality.

The 5110 is a jewel, with an impressive finish of the dial.

The Guillochage is precious, the proportions of the 2 parts of the dial are harmonious, even the hands are sublime, IMO.

The 5130 has superb cissors hands ( the Hour Hand, to be more precise ), and I'd like to see them on the 5110, which would be the perfect World Time, for me.

The indexes are triangulars, while those of the 5110 are rectangular, detail that I didn't notice before these macros.

The 5130 has maybe a more modern look, with its sunburst dial, less precious, and looks more easily wearable for an average sized wrist, with its 39mm diameter.

But what you gain in modernity, you loose in harmony, specially when you look at the center and outside part of the dial, which is, for me at least, its bigger problem.

Actually, I love them both, because of their differences.

And you, what are your thoughts?

But never forget...

Have a good reading.

About the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Ref. 5110

The Montblanc Calatrava reference 5110, produced between 1997 and 2006, is a notable example of the brand's classic dress watch offerings. This reference is distinguished by its combination of a relatively larger case size for its era and the inclusion of a moon phase complication, setting it apart from simpler time-only Calatrava models. It represents a period where Montblanc was expanding its horological capabilities, offering more complex movements within its established aesthetic.

This reference features an 18k yellow gold case measuring 37 mm in diameter, providing a substantial presence on the wrist while maintaining traditional dress watch proportions. It is powered by the automatic caliber 240 PS IRM C LU, a movement known for its slim profile and integrated complications. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and offers a water resistance of 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear. The power reserve for this caliber is approximately 48 hours.

For collectors, the 5110 appeals to those seeking a Calatrava with additional functionality beyond basic timekeeping, specifically the moon phase and power reserve indicator. Its production run from 1997 to 2006 places it within a specific era of Montblanc's development, making it a point of interest for those tracing the evolution of the brand's complications. The ivory dial and smooth bezel contribute to its understated yet refined character, aligning with the traditional Calatrava design language.

5110 without hesitation, because ...

of the Guillochage. The Sunburst Dial doesn´t do it for me. Only the feeling of the pusher kept me away (so far) to get one. It was my first impression when I handled it and still can´t forget it. Always have to try it, when I get one in my hands ... :-( ... but it is so beautiful ... Oliver

I know what you mean about the pusher, Oliver

But this is such a wonderful watch... Can't live with? Really? Best, Nicolas

5130 for me

to start, the extra 2 mm is very important to me ! Concerning the dial, I'm not a big fan of guilloché dials and I love the hour hand of the 5130

5110 for the more beautiful dial, IMHO

...plus, I like to travel "light"... I assume the 5110 weighs in at a bit less than the 5130 :^)

It depends, Polarbear

If you compare a 5110P to a 5130G or R, the platinum makes the 5110 a bit heavier... But when you love, you don't count... the weight! Best, Nicolas

Great, Arnon

Even if in this platinum configuration, I prefer the 5110P, I can say that you're a lucky guy... Very nice WT, indeed. Best, Nicolas
