I understand exactly what type of watch you have in mind and why you want platinum.
Fortunately there are, next to Patek and some independents, many more high and medium end brands who carry gorgeous pt watches. I’ve added a picture of my personal favorite which I wear often. The VC 1921 American
Personally platinum is my favorite material for a watch. But be aware, it does come with certain draw backs that, if not considered prior to purchase, might result in disappointment.
1) platinum is much more dense then gold but the case isn’t smaller hence the only logical outcome is that the platinum version will be heavier. For some that’s a negative aspect, some are neutral and some see it as a plus as they prefer a watch to feel bit heavy
2) in general ( and only in general coz I’m moving on thin ice here as it’s also highly subject to brand and model) the platinum version carries a pretty big premium over gold, but in secondary markets that premium is quickly gone. Hence write off percentages are higher than gold versions
But, and here comes the big bit and from personal hands on experience, if you get over those issues above and buy a pt version, you will experience what makes platinum so special. Hard to express in words easy to experience by wearing it for a day.
Happy hunting

...but what if I have my heart set on Patek? I can “get away” (meaning my wife has approved...) with the purchase of a single watch, not multiples. I am a buy-and-hold guy. I would own it forever. So far the best suggestion for PP would be to go vintage. ...

Baguette diamonds and platinum in 38 mm. A serious, serious piece! Unisex, too.
Great music reference : )

...saw one that sold for under $US55k at auction but don’t remember the date. That seems like a reasonable price.
Look for a new release next year

but the platinum may be the last to issue. I would check out the Lange Saxonia Thin or the VC manual wind. Both much better options than anything PP currently offers in manual wind simple dress.
