Not exactly targeting it:
I just "stumbled" upon it online and felt really attracted. I think I might want to add a PP to my collection someday, only if I find one which I can afford and which I'm truly in love with, of course. Here, what really meets my taste is: (i) the 240 caliber (I'm not fond of PP's central rotor calibers) with a perfectly sized case (very important for me); (ii) true Patek DNA (hobnail bezel, dauphine hands) and sober aesthetic; (iii) being in white gold and coming with a bracelet (with wonderful oval links), it would bring something completely new to my trio of rose gold/leather strap watches (if it was platinum, I might be even more excited). Sorry for such a detailed answer!
Outdated or timeless understated refinement?

The bezel is controversial. Outdated? Deliciously retro? Class?
To each his own. For the rest, it is a classic. Give it a smooth bezel and it is objectively timeless. Best, Nicolas

To me that’s what makes it recognizable as a Calatrava. I’d just prefer it on a strap.
Yes, but, as far as I’ve seen, the variants with a strap
don’t have Dauphine hands. And I think I would love to have the bracelet too and be able to swap for a strap from time to time (the bracelet isn’t integrated).
It’s good to have both
If the bracelet isn’t integrated, you have great option to be able to switch back and forth. It’s a nice looking Calatrava.
I’ve checked the prices on Ch24: very expensive for a 3 hands watch.
Buying an iconic or historically significant Calatrava comes at a cost.
This model with bracelet has Dauphine hands,
which makes a real difference and a great monochrome look. As for the hobnail bezel, I personally find it attractive (I think I would like it less with a smooth one).

And why has this absolutely perfect caliber/case sizing become so rare? It’s an important part of the appeal for me.

and definitely think it makes a lot of sense when it comes to a PP watch!

Definitely timeless. An alligator strap could give that watch a completely different look. Black, brown, green even red or yellow. the choice are endless.
This is one of my favorite watches with bracelet and these hands...
...not sure if it's sportier than the 'normal' version or not. But it is so thin and so gorgeous. I don't think there are many around either...
It seems pretty rare indeed.
Concerning the Dauphine hands, it gives a very cohesive and monochrome look, which I like a lot.
