My two cents
I've not any experience with the AR because i still prefer the traditional escapement and i am pretty uncertain about the silicon usage in horology.
From an aesthetic point of view i still prefer the old but always beautiful ref. 3940 which is, for my personal taste, the best perpetual calendar with traditional hands and without windowed informations ever made by Patek Philippe.
If you compare side by side the two dials you will notice a lot of different details, with the new one resulting in some way more fuzzy and not well conceived in front of the ancestor.
In one of the last numbers of the company's magazine there is a comparison with big detailed pictures that talk themselves

Maintenance schedule of adv research refs different?
Does Patek indicate that the normally scheduled maintenance periods change when it comes to references that utilize advanced research components?

On the actual Certificate of Origin - no mention of service schedule. It states 5 year warranty. In the Advanced Research Book, p. 33, service recommended every 3-5 years. There is 5 year warranty statement again in the WARRANTY section p. 30, but then......

I am with you on the smaller 27 and 5 date font size on 5140 vs 3940...however
the "+" things I liked about 5550 overwhelmed my "-" thoughts about the font size issue. What I like about 5550 dial are the subtle contrast created by the yg baton hour markers and luminous leaf hands giving a greater depth perception to the dial in spit...
I called earlier this 5550P "my nightmare watch".

it's 2 totally different watches If I had to choose, I'll keep your nightmare But if I had to choose with all my Patek, none of the 2 will stay... Sorry to be such a spoiled child

Whoever designed the dial should be given an extra adda-boy. Pleasing case, great movement and a breath taking dial .. the perfect horological storm. What a watch!
