I’ve tried on some Crazy hours, but it’s more than I can take:
it drives me… crazy.
What I like here is somewhat what you describe: the "artistic" freedom, the choice to orient the numbers not as they are supposed to be, but in such a way that they appear so intriguing and interesting that looking at your watch becomes an aesthetic experience and not just a collection of information.
And of course we don't need numbers, but when the font is attractive, it can bring something that indexes don't convey.

Horizontal “3” & “9”: yes or no?
I absolutely love this layout of the Arabic numerals , with horizontal “ 3 ” & “ 9 ”, and the “ Bauhaus -style” font (just my way of characterising it). They can be found across three Patek Philippe rectangular references powered by the 9-90 caliber ....

Just because this layout is much rarer with Arabic numerals
than with Roman (its fairly common with Roman). So I assumed, maybe wrongly, that some might fin it odd... Best, Emmanuel

I quite like the horizontal numbers and the exclamation point hours, followed by the two-tone.
Hi Emmanuel, The first example I find
most interesting because the hour markers start with an applied dot with a line (for the hour without numerals). This style is seldom seen. You have many shaped watches to pursue ! 😂
