I respect your opinion. What I wanted to say is that the 3970 first series is distinct from the second and subsequent models.
Brahms' First Symphony is said to be as if a classical masterpiece comparable to Beethoven's 10th Symphony. In the same way, 3970 1st edition might be the successor PCC to the last 2499.

I agree that the 3970 & 3971 first series are worthy and wonderful successors to the reference 2499.
Without the screw-down case back which was later featured and with the hallmarks on the back of the lugs and not on their side, it looks perfect. Best, Emmanuel
