Patek Philippe

The title says it all, I have had several conversations about A. Lange vs. Patek and vice versa recently... I have my opinion, I am curious of yours.

doesn't this boil down to aesthetics at this level? no words will convey the spirit that is obvious to the eye, and this is the final arbiter. overall, i find lange more visually interesting, less staid, but at some level: so what. i think both are phenom... 

Cuibono, I think the other factors beyond aesthetics are as follows: 1. Quality 2. Resale value (not in a flipping sense, but watches at these levels should retain as much value as possible) 3. The ability to get a discount. When I buy a Patek, I am less ... 

if this comment, "A.Lange is owned by a company that also owns Hublot (Nuff' said)," is serious, then surely it's decisive for you. but it makes your original question moot: sounds like you already know what you want. chris

Chris, As I stated in my post, I have my opinions already, I was curious about others...

You can buy a gray market 5270 for under 140K. You can buy a gray market 5170 for under 60K. Sounds like all you're looking for is a status symbol.

... personally I prefer the dials in general of a Lange, they are more 'modern' if I can call it like that than the Pateks. Technically I don't think they differ so much that you can really say there is a real winner here, it has a lot to do on how much y... 

But I would have owned alot more PP than Lange simply PP's line of classic watches catch my eyes more. I pay particular attention to dial designs and specifically index cut offs, even the most subtle bother me a great deal! and Lange have too many of its ... 

i like certain models with Lange(tz, dato,xeit) patek I like 5070, nautilus line, 5960 so it really boils down to which models we r talking about.

Lange makes a wonderful product and some very appealing pieces, but every time I'm tempted by one of them, it disqualifies itself from purchase by me because the font used for both words and numerals is overly decorative (translate this as "classic" or "o...

I own two PP and recently bought my first Lange after long consideration...I like the discreetness (is that a word?) of ALS and the fact that they are so underpriced (in my opinion) in the 2nd hand market. Mega bang for your hard earned bucks in so many w... 

I think the brand is not appreciated as much as it should be. PP is a great brand too and indeed a huge status symbol in many countries. It's hard to choose one. But I think I lean towards PP for their selection and ALS for their visual designs and incorp... 

They don't have the same business model (one produces 10 times more watches than the other), the style is different, the movements lay-out, the design and so on... It is more interesting to compare two specific watches with similar complications to highli... 

Both work well together in a collection. PP will always be at top of my list along with vintage Rolex. Lange will always have a place in my collection and I appreciate their quality, fit and feel. As stated above though it is more about preference of spec... 

However, for me Patek is closer just due to - the history - a family owned company vs. Cartier, JLC, VC, Lange, Mont Blanc, Piaget and God only knows what else For me Patek's design speaks louder while Lange's movements are unbeatable. Best, Kari
