I honestly didn't know it was that insane

Had contact with 2 AD I know very well. talked about a lot but at some point about the 5711/A

The first AD closed the list cause he had reached 100 requests for that watch, the other did not close the list and had now 230 people on his list
I know both get 2 or 3 of these watches per year.
So unless you want to pay 50-60K euro for a secondhand one or you can put yourself on top of any list this watch is really impossible to get ?
I thought the average wait was 3, 5 or maybe 7 years. But when hearing this it's 30 till 70 years LOL

Most of these hype watches are probably sold directly to the grey market.

Brands don't care about it and both authorized dealers and greys are the winners in this shady business.

I don't think this is true?

Many of the coveted pieces go to long-time and robust supporters of the brand. As such, ... nearly all of them DON'T immediately sell on the grey market.

I would offer the second AD to leave a deposit but only if he guarantees delivery by year 2100, just to see what he says.. if I have to guess, he’ll take the money😉

Keep in mind that even a 5-year waiting list is practically nonsense, I would be surprised if the 5711 will even be produced in five years from now. Any AD that takes more than 8 to 10 names on their ‘list’ is either implying that you should give them lot...

No, not for anything. [nt]

Well have to say I've never ordered an MR so I truthfully can't answer that.

I’m not sure if there is a level when a deposit would kick in but whenever I have asked I am told it is policy not to take a deposit! Simply confirmation required you wish to proceed before shipment.

I'm not sure if this is right?

I certainly can't speak with specific knowledge on how your AD does business? I can only comment on my personal experience. For me there have been instances when it's been appropriate and I HAVE placed a deposit. It was NOT to DEFEND the purchase from oth...

My experience..

 By: Wristenthusiast : March 16th, 2019-09:09
I talked to an AD who said he has no lists for anything. Not officially. He is the one who try’s to obtain the pieces and he is the one who inquires about MRs etc. he said his client list is so good (read that as wealthy, affluent, whatever) that he gets ...

The first one you mention is indeed also a likely scenario...

 By: FabR : March 16th, 2019-11:39
Patek has at some point in the process to approve a specific customer’s name for an application piece, but given that this is very likely to happen with certain customers, that’s definitely a legitimate way to go for an AD😀 The incident you mention with t...

Wait ... I don't understand?

By: Mean Solar Time : March 16th, 2019-13:59
You say your AD doesn't have lists "for anything"? Then, ... if a client passes on a piece "he goes down the list"? What I've seen is that understandably AD's keep track of what their good clients are considering. In practice it means either formally or i...

I did not articulate it well..

 By: Wristenthusiast : March 16th, 2019-15:30
But yes when I said list in that instance what I meant was the AD said he tries to get good, interesting, amazing, or whatever prices and then he contacts customers he knows likes those sorts of things. The list is his mental list, not a written promise. ...

I understand

By: Mean Solar Time : March 16th, 2019-16:17
It probably depends on what kind of Patek volume the AD sells. I would think if the inventory is high ... some organization process is necessary so the sales team isn't at each other's throats.

It seems to be Patek Policy

My Ad took an order for a 5270P that won't be delivered until January. I wanted to put down a deposit to make sure I wouldn't lose the watch, but he refused and sent me a purchase order.

No deposit ...

By: Mean Solar Time : March 16th, 2019-14:16
... is the norm, but may not be the absolute?

For an application piece they may just want to be sure you’ll pay for it, since it arrives with your name on it...

 By: FabR : March 16th, 2019-04:33
So the most it can happen is that you give a ‘deposit’ right before the watch is being shipped, but after you’ve been approved. Asking you for a deposit on an application piece before you even get selected, frankly sounds even more dishonest than for a re...

Snap. No lists at my AD.

No message body

I'm pretty sure this is wrong?

By: Mean Solar Time : March 16th, 2019-14:27
I believe there are instances where one can get "approved" for a watch that may take a very long time to deliver?

Yes, it also happened in my experience that a limited/application piece was delivered quite a while after approval (max 6 months, I believe); however, I was never asked for any payment until shipment was imminent.

 By: FabR : March 16th, 2019-17:21
As far as I know, before any periodic shipment, an AD has to electronically confirm each watch in that specific delivery. So, quite frankly, I'd just find it inelegant and unnecessary of an AD to ask for an early deposit, especially towards an important p...

I PM'ed you [nt]

That's a long list!

Best way is enroll direct to a PP boutique...

If they see your interest is genuine, normally they’ll get you one with a waiting time far less than ADs. Best, Mahesh.,
