I feel your pain, especially when watch is brand new ...

Hi Vilit, I know from reading your previous posts that you are a serious collector/enthusiast. It's too bad that misfortune has hit your 5980 with a failure so soon after receipt. But as you know with these mechanicals bad things may happen. It may be that your problem is that the chrono minute hand just got loose and fell off and nothing else is wrong with movement. I have worn my 5980 almost daily since receipt in late April (actually 72 of the past 81 days) and as an hourly fee based consultant use both the chrono and fly-back pushers regularly with no problems. Not that my anecdotal experience makes your situation any better. I hope that when your watch is returned from Patek spa you get several years of enjoyable service.

It's interesting to observe the follow-up posts with anecdotes about poor quality control and service when one of our watches fail. But I wonder if the frequency is a higher than what "normal" manufacturing processes would expect given that we are dealing with mechanical engines. I suspect that only manufacturers have the data to prove or disprove our hypothesis and observations.

My comments are not mean to diminish Vilit's disappointment because I have had similar situations for long awaited watches. I'm just wondering whether or not the context of our collective bad experiences are a significant deviation from the norm which IMO are only marginally correlated to how much one has paid for watch.

I'm not sure that 5980 has a fly-back function.

Just got this 5980 for two weeks. Playing around with the chronograph function..... Try the fly-back and then.... Oooh I don't know I want to laugh or to cry..... I found it is not the fly-back function. It is the FLY-AWAY ! PS: In my record, the modern P...

Ouch!

Actually my favorite part of the flyback function is that it makes the chronograph much more foolproof. Not sure it's fair to blame your problem on Patek though. Pushing the return button while the chorono is running on a non-flyback chrono will break any...

I'll blame it on Patek coz 5980 has fly-back function and...

haha sorry. I did not realize the 5980 is supposed to have a flyback. I personally think that hand looks good floating over there ;P

Mine works

The flyback function of mine works well. It was a bit scary the first time I pushed the button as I'm not sure if it works. I must say that your picture was hilarious and made me laugh. Must hit the list of funniest picture of the year. Try to see the fun...

Not meant to be fiddle with or move/worn too often especially for their relatively new 5960/5980 and complicated watches.. It has been more than 2 years now since the chrono hands problem appeared in the 1st batch of 5960,it may take sometime until their ...

Are you asking about the hand with red pointer at three?
