I think that the price was about $37K USD including premium at the last auction. i think that all the second hand guys are holding them like you say hoping they'll go up in value, I am not sure how much they'll go up though.
I like the piece, but not sure if it's worth the added $$$ considering the 5712 is similar and some say better. But it's bigger which is bad for me.

I bought it today and I should be receiving the 3712 with all papers, etc on saturday should everything go well. I will try to post some photos at that time. I am excited to get the watch and wear it. Best. pat

I'd say it's silver.... Not very obvious but if you compare with the white painted date hand, it's good to compare. Here's a (not very good) picture taken 2005 in Basel .......
