Good am Purists, I was sniffing around for 3970s lately but I started looking at the 5170P and the dial looks amazing. I’m more of a 5070 Lemania fan historically. I know there a million pros and cons for both of these references but I was curious if anyo...

The 3970 had it's time in the spotlight, and now it's dimensions and thickness, plus small face, work against it. Still, at around $60k for the 3970G it might be worth a look. Any more than 60 and i'd pass. The 5170p might be the better long-term hold, if...

.....5070, 3970 then 5170P. 5170 last because I just don't like diamionds on the face of a dial. If it didn't have the diamonds, then it would come in second for me behind the 5070. I think the 3970 is a lovely watch, but, its not one I would buy because ... 

I agree completely on the 3970. I find that I can make a checklist on a piece and it may check every box but at the end of the day it has to have some magic!

I like the 5170P very much and you are right that it has a mesmerising dial and the diamond markers are very discreet. But for me personally, there is little competition if compared with a 3970G which I love. Firstly, it is the right size compared the the... 

I'm not a diamond guy at all, but I tried it on once and it's to die for! But it depends on what you are looking for, what the purpose of your purchase is. I don't see a right choice here, all three are great watches, extremely different but with o couple... 

Good afternoon, Thank you for the responses on this. I found a mint 3970G with a black stick dial and I'm happy to report that I bought it! It should be another week before I pick it up so I'll save my impressions for then. Best regards
