Your question is bypassed by most of the forum members here.
Perhaps they are too mesmerized by the new acquisition by Aron that your question was overlooked.
I wondered the same but through the many conversations on this piece, this is what I learnt.
1) 5131 is an application piece. It means you have to apply to buy it.
2) Application is through the A.D.
3) The application is approved by Mr. Stern (I think) who considers your application based on certain criteria.
4) one of the criteria (it seems) , is that the applicant must have been a substantial client of Patek Philippe, having bought a few pieces.
That's all I know. If I am incorrect mo any points, do chime in.
Personally, I've never been through the process so what I am offering is second hand info.

I had also a strong love affair when I got mine. However, I find it a bit difficult to wear with business suit something shiny and colourful. But I think it's just us northern guys. Anyhow, you have got a beautiful watch. Enjoy it! Best, Kari

My local AD just told me that there are no more 5131 to be delivered. I guess you received one of the last. A new version is being introduced in Basel to replace this.
