Happy 3998P silver no diamonds owner here for roughly a decade...
I have 6.6" wrists and prefer smaller watches with the 3998P being my smallest. While the watch is small, the dial is not. It is the same size as the dial of my 5711/1A. I use the 3998P no matter what I am wearing and wouldn't trade it for a 39mm 5227 or similar. Not a fan of large empty dials. The one automatic Calatrava I might add is 5107P black.
Note that 3998 changed quite a bit over its long production period. The movement changed from 310 to 315 with the 310 having been problematic. Early examples got two hallmarks on the case side opposite of the crown, later ones have two hallmarks under the lugs and since around 2000 or 2001 (or 2002) they put four hallmarks under the lugs. The aprior marks / sigma dials disappeared, the date font lost the serifs, the Patek logo also became more modern, you name it... The biggest visual change was a change in the shape the lugs when they increased the number of hallmarks from two to four around 2000 or 2001. Earlier the lugs were narrow and long, after 2000 or 2001 shorter and stubbier looking. Some people think that the early examples are overpolished when in fact the lugs on all but the most recent examples were thin to begin with.
