Patek Philippe

First Patek to enter my watch box !

Here it is - the first ever Patek to enter my watch box. A pilot watch reference 7234G.

Apart from the case, I can't yet feel the DNA passed down from its 1930s ancestors but still, the piece is striking. It retains the obvious look of a pilot's watch (including some of the best lume I've seen so far) but with the added poesie of the GMT hand and the double day/night indicators. These are a lot of fun to track though sadly do not account for seasonal change. So it's a GMT with a twist, a pilot's with a twist and a Patek with a twist. At 37.5mm in width, to which you add the pushers on either side, it's the right size and is aesthetically pleasing to me.

Taking a step back, it's definitevly a proud moment. The first Patek is like the first Ferrari (I think? If you're a petrol head, let me know!). So there’s a huge sense of excitement discovering what is Patek for the first time.

I notice in particular the golden hue of the white gold case. I notice the poetry of the movement compared to my Lange. I feel it has a soul and a unique horological expression. The font of the PATEK PHILIPPE is also imposing and it feels like the Sterns are reminding me to treat their watch respectfully!

In any case, I'm ready to discover more pieces from this manufacture even though I still hesitate about the number of "P"s in Patek Philippe! A next potential target is the Regulator 5235G which would complement the Pilot very very well. Simple but with a twist, Patek but with a twist!

Thanks for reading,

Hugo
