Depends on the watch

My understanding is that different 3940s show more or less shading. Not sure if it’s light exposure or vintage or what. My 3941 is very subtle; almost imperceptible.

Is that always displayed or is there a mechanism that triggers the brown on the day/night of the 3940 please ? I can see it on some photos but sometime it is not there so wondered if this is a lighting effect or something else ? Thanks Kev ...

thank you for introducing me this amazing lecture! As for my case it is hard to see with the naked eye , but there are signs like that when it expands.

I'll be happy to see what the vintage experts say, but my guess is that your watch is an early second series: no division for the leap year indicator, plus the "sigma Swiss sigma" signature is clearly below the minute track ;-)
