it is a very rare piece and not your mother's 2526 hence the price.
People seem to forget that condition and rarity are extremely important in the valuation. For example, at the end of the C auction, a 2499 sold at a relatively low price compared to recent auctions. The reason - the dial had been redone and the case had no hallmarks and may have been replaced.

anything is possible..... I didn't see both watches myself but I don't feel surprised for the price difference if we are comparing an average 2526 with a perfect 2526. You know... not that many good 2526 enamel dial around... Also, RG play a big role here...

I'm not that much surprised with this piece really as its rarity did command deservedly high price. However, look at C auction yesterday a 5970 WG went for more than US $210K!!!! Now that does surprise me!!

Patek with Serpico Y Laino on the dial is extremely rare and with that type of bracelet makes it even more desire especially in rose gold in such condition. Rarity + desire + condition=$$$$.
