A true grand complication...

 


The term "grand complication" is used very loosely these days. Today, Patek Philippe uses it to describe just about any of their watches that are special, assembled twice, and assembled by one individual. Anything as complex or more complex than a perpetual calendar is considered to be a "grand complication."

One of the more "universal" definitions of "grand complication" is that the watch incorporates three ideas and features; an audible format of telling the time (minute repeater), ability to measure time intervals (chronograph), and ability to chart the time (perpetual calendar).

I am pleased to see that this is a true grand complication in that sense.

Extremely happy to hear that the perpetual calendar is instantaneous. However, I just wished the minute repeater gongs were cathedral gongs. I still like the 5074P the most...
