A similar situation perhaps
Aug 25, 2020,01:30 AM
Patek Philippe produced the reference 3878J from 1981 to 1998. In 2018, due to a request from a very important customer, they made one more and I happened to come across it at the London Salon as the customer changed his mind. So I guess Patek still had a spare movement kept from 20 years ago.
Approximately only 60 had been produced in its 17 year life.

Can someone please explain this to me?

Looking at the Extract from the Archives, how was this Reference 2526 sold in 1985? It clearly states the movement was manufactured in 1955, encased and sold in 1985. How did Patek Philippe operate in those days? Was this a special order or did they have ...
If the movement matches with the case number you are all fine

Excluding any typo error which I doubt very much from Patek Philippe! There are 2 possible reasons. 1. The movement was replaced with the same new old stock originally made in 'Date' 2. It was produced with a new old stock movement So long the watch movem...
I have heard of this before,

Please follow up with Patek Philippe and let us know what they say. In my reading, I remember mention being made of this type of thing happening. You may have a watch that was re-cased due to the original case being damaged. Patek Philippe was rather a di...

Thanks to everyone for their replies and insights. One thing I'm sure of that it's not a typing error. Here's an earlier extract. It is also intriguing the dial is not mentioned in the 2003 extract. ...

The watch is being kept in a safe and I aim to collect it by 2024 or 2025. Secretly though or not so secretly, it could happen as early as the end of 2021 but I am being optimistic here.
Hi Just a few points

1. Is the first extract an original one or a copy. I am little sceptical about a few things a The dial is noted as " 2526" that is very strange b. The date of manufacture relates only to the movement- never seen that. cThe case number can be dated from da...
This may sound crazy..

I think I’ve seen that extract before. PM me if you’d like. If it was not that exact watch for sale, then I have absolutely seen a 2526 1955 movement encased in the 80s for sale. It stuck in my head because of how odd it sounded. I believe it’s legit. ...
