Dear all, What’s your opinion of the discontinued hunter case 5153 Black dial Calatrava? I am looking for a simple dress watch and the current Calatrava line doesn’t appeal to me much. I find the 5153 quirky and unique. Odd like a ref 6006, in a good way....

I once owned the 5153G with the white dial and is one of the few watches that I do miss. Pure elegance!!

I struggle a bit also with my black dial 1815 ALS in dimly lit conditions.

especially in daylight. However, often bad readability is a reason to change the hands. Mr. Stern offered it to me when I complained that I can't see the time from one of my watches. Best, Kari

I have the white dial version. Very elegant. It is rather heavy though, and I rarely flip the cover. Jim

My choice would be the RG one, but if it sings to you like the RG one to me, then go for it.

Amazing watch and love it. You just need to try it first. As lugs are quite stretched as it meant to remind about repurposed pocket watch. I am actually currently selling mine in case if interested

Having said that it does not have the best side profile and flow the thinner Calatravas all have. I would go with the white dial over the black in G as the pattern on the black dial is almost impossible to see. Its a lot of watch with the Deployant and so...
