5098P Gondolo Guilloché Goodness
Hello all,
I wanted to share some photos of my first Patek. I’ve been a fan of the brand for a long time, but never seriously considered adding one to my collection as most models are well outside of my budget.
Then, one day last summer, I came across a 5098P for the first time at a local retailer. I was honestly surprised by how much I liked it. Not a style I would normally gravitate towards, but everything about the watch sang to me, especially the guilloché dial.
The watch had recently returned from service, and the price seemed good, so after thinking about it for a few weeks and negotiating a trade, the watch was mine.
It’s an absolute joy to wear, and while I thought it would be a sort of under-the-radar kind of choice, I receive more comments on this watch than any other in my collection.
These are undervalued, as far as I’m concerned, and deals can be had. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to try one on the next time you have a chance.

This is not a model I've paid much attention to--I remember years ago dismissing it as "Patek's Franck Muller"--but it looks so transcplendent here I feel like a fool for ignoring it!

At first glance you would assume it’s a Franck Muller, but will the connection to historical Gondolo models, it really has loads of Patek DNA. Thanks for looking!

I don’t dress formally nearly as much as I used to, and I think adding a strap like this can make a watch much more versatile and more likely to be worn.

I agree with your thoughts. There are so many great value buys out there right now if you’re willing to look past all the hype. Maybe one day one of these will find its way to your wrist.
There are a couple of Pateks that stand out and this is one of them.

Thanks! I’m not sure why it seems to be notice more,
but I think it might have something to do with how unusual it is to see anything other than an Apple Watch or large sports watch on anyone’s wrist these days.
