I own a 5039, but sometimes wish I had bought the 3940 instead. The 3940 appears to be more a "classic" Patek 240Q. If I were to make the decision now, I would definitely go for the 5140. The slightly enlarged case has a better diameter-to-thickness ratio, making it look thinner than it is. It is also easier to read the date.
Ultimately, the best advice is to put the watches on your own wrist and see and feel for yourself
