3940 Reality
Patek goes to great lengths to keep its production secret. Howver, the 3940, a watch made for 20+ years will have over 10,000 examples in existence. if every "Authorized Dealer" sold only 1 per year multiplied by 20 year multiplied by hundreds of dealers...well you do the math. Then there are the gray market sales. I am new to this, but not the world of exotic cars. The first, the last and unusual whatever or no longer in production is always used to jack up the prices be it a car and now, as I see, a watch. People are trying to capital on the end of the 3940 and once the demand is sated, prices will level out.. Let no one forget that the Swiss Franc is up 33% against the dollar since Bush was elected and gold has what, tripled? This has had a major impact on the prices of all Swiss watches. Taste aside, the 3940 is not gone but replaced by the 5140 which now will be argued that it too is special. The extra 1.2mm sized will let us graying boomers be able to see the new generation watch far easier than the prior one as our eyesight weakens.
