I cannot understand the debate over this wonderful plat chrono 5170p versus the 5070. I have never allowed value to influence a purchase but this model surely makes sense to the consumer and the collector. Does anyone know what the likely production quant...

And for the comparison: These two are really different: The dials, the hands, the indices, the caee, the movements, the size, the way the sub dials are located. I agree with you that rarity doesn't make everything and should not be taken in consideration ...  

For the price, I would go for the 5170, even if I like some things about the 5070 more (and some things less).

I prefer it to the 5070 in part because it is more eccentric and thus more interesting, whereas the 5170P is somehow too perfect. That said, the 5070 is too big for my wrist, so the preference is academic.

Tough comparison as one is >2x the price of the other... Value aside I would marginally lean towards the 5070 as I like the unusual character of it and its historical significance to Patek. However for my money (limited wallet size I mean) I can not see h... 

Smaller , simpler case . Moment to case ratio better. In-house movement, not a must but reassuring. More elaborate dial . Wear comfort ,due to size . Zsolt.

I simply cannot overlook the "small movement-large case" syndrom of the 5070 with its very large bezel.

However I understand the 5070p emits something special something magic that apparently doesn’t really come through on pictures. (Could also be the emperor’s new clothe syndrome.) The softness and actuation of the 5170 is top level and similar to the datog...  

For all the exact reasons people would prefer the 5170. 5070 just has a completely different feel to it. This along with being the first Chrono for a long time is why I won’t be swapping mine anytime soon. The limited numbers and it’s quirks will make it ... 

That it is no secret that the 5070 was a slow burner for me and defiantly a grower and to be honest if I could delete 35 years of watch collecting from my memory and held a 5070p and 5170p in my hand with no knowledge of watches my eyes would defiantly go...
