Tends to look at all the fine features and then missed the Big Picture!  Now that you mentioned J and G, more enjoyment when looking at both.

and we are discussing where to have our holidays this summer. Last summer we were in South Africa and Botswana. But the world has also many other places to offer... We would love to go again to Hawaii or west coast of US. But those are not in the map. Wha...

Head South

The 5131G hour hand is pointing to Antarctica. There are tours leaving from Argentina in December and January. Beautiful photo. The gold and enamel work is gorgeous. So much seamless color variation within continents.

Antarctica is in my dreams...

I'm spending a lot of time in Lapland but it's not really cold. The lowest temperature I have experienced there was minus 51 degrees. The best freezing experience was during a 8 days hunting trip in Greenland. The temperature was all the time below minus ...

All excuses are good to get a 5131J...

 By: Fricks : June 8th, 2013-16:00
... But that one will be hard to beat :)

I will naturally try all tricks to my AD.

 By: dr.kol : June 8th, 2013-16:04
However, I am very happy having "just" the G. Best, Kari

Kari, im so envious!

 By: Pythagoras : June 8th, 2013-16:58
Everytime i see your 5131G, i cant help but feel envious. :)) Its just so beautiful kari!! You are a very lucky guy. When will my allocation come?? :( Best regards, Aron

I hunted 5131 since the day "J" was published

 By: dr.kol : June 8th, 2013-20:48
and the introduction of "G" just modified the target. So it takes time and a good guess is that most of us who got ours from the AD waited 4-5 years. But in addition to time, also luck is needed. There are no obvious answers how to get one: I visited Pari...

The answer is simple:

5131G is the Chines / Far Eastern version of the World Time while 5131J is the American one. Because Europe is between China and USA, Europeans can wear both. Best, Kari

Hi Kari, It will be interesting if the R and P versions were made ...

 By: GLau : June 8th, 2013-23:19
... what maps will appear on their dials ?? Perhaps a map of the earth similar to the Ulysse Nardin's Tellurium would be fitting, with a North Pole view for one metal and South Pole view for the other. In terms of the wait list for 5131, similar situation...

Hi Gordon,

 By: dr.kol : June 8th, 2013-23:36
I made the question about the maps to a person who knows. The reply was: "naturally in P there's Arctic". I first thought he was joking. But when I thought about the issue, it would be natural to have Southern Hemisphere in R and Northern Hemisphere in P....

wow .... thanks Kari for the info and

 By: GLau : June 8th, 2013-23:44
my "wild" guess about the maps was not far off then yes, after getting the 5131G, it is a purist's natural instinct to pursue the 5131J For me, the "urge" is suppressed with the 5130R Shanghai Cheers, Gordon

If Patek would make a special version

 By: dr.kol : June 9th, 2013-01:18
dedicated to Lapland instead of Shanghai, I would also run after that. Luckily, there are so few people living in Lapland and for sure no clients of Patek that such a version is very unlikely. Best, Kari

Thanks Kari...

A bigger problem is Fifi, Funny One's St. Bernhard puppy. I can't now get out from the house because this nice small dog chewed all the gate wires into small pieces. Perhaps you would like to baby-sit her? Now it looks like we will be in London next time ...

You should have told me

 By: Lasluo : June 9th, 2013-14:20
that you're taking some pictures on the go. I could have borrowed a Canon ixus 60 so you could have fitted atleast the whole dial in one pic. Such a shame..

I'll buy it!

 By: dr.kol : June 9th, 2013-14:50
One day after I have recovered the past acquisitions. Is that some new pro-stuff? Best, Kari

I dont want to brag about it...

 By: Lasluo : June 10th, 2013-04:48
...at least too much, but it's 6.0mb camera with a 3x Canon Zoom Lens and 4x digital zoom. It was top of the line in 2005. Best, Nephew

Poor Devil!

Don't you remember that your Fantastic Uncle gave you a Leica D-Lux 4? The poorest of the relatives always makes me feel very sorry. Empty pocket and your face... What a combination! Best, Uncle Kari

Hey, thats a bit too much,

 By: Lasluo : June 10th, 2013-05:28
there's nothing wrong with my pockets!! The D-Lux is in constant use, thank you for that. I was just worried because you weren't able to fit the whole dial in one pic so I thought to offer my help. Anyways, congrats for the fantastic grail of yours. I kno...

If I remember right,

I gave you my first Rolex I got on 26th April 1986... Then I gave you a Chopard LUC. Then you needed a "daily beater" and I "sold" you a Longines Legend Diver with the huge amount of € 100. However, I must admit that at the moment I am very happy with my ...

I can't say

that you haven't taken good care of your poor nephew :D

Fantastic, and if you ever do make it to Hawaii (Maui)

 By: mauiguy : June 10th, 2013-23:17
Please remember to give me a shout so I can show you some of our island's best cuisine. This is not merely an excuse to marvel at your incredible 5131G however, make sure you're wearing it just the same! P.S. Thanks for posting these incredible macro shot...

Thanks mauiguy

We are seriously thinking to have a holiday in the US this late summer and my wife is pushing me to choose Hawaii. We both loved it two years ago. At the same time I have never experienced the potato fields of Iowa... Best, Kari

Iowa? Seriously?

 By: masterspiece : June 14th, 2013-02:36
Ok, Kari, Iowa or Hawaii? The choice is clear. But, unfortunately, we don't have potato fields so Iowa wins out on that one. :-) Aloha, my friend. Bob ps Can I be your adopted nephew. LOL

But you have pineapple...

 By: dr.kol : June 15th, 2013-02:28
A nephew by definition must be a bit stupid. Are you sure my friend? Best, Kari

They purposely can't put Hawaii on the map...

 By: masterspiece : June 14th, 2013-02:42
because it's paradise and people will get jealous. But we are on the 24 hr timezone. :-) Aloha, Bob

Perhaps Hawaii will be

 By: dr.kol : June 15th, 2013-02:29
on the platinum vesrion. That one should present the best of the best and I agree, Hawaii is a Paradise! Best, Kari
