5070P & 5970G

 By: hooscar : April 19th, 2009-19:34
I need to make a decision to choose between 5070P (list price) and 5970G (market price), can someone help me to make the decision? My intension of buying either of this watch is mostly for collection and then a little bit of investment........Which one sh...

5070G

Even though you have expressed an interest in my 5970G, you should buy the model that you like the best and not be concerned with investment value

Why don't you look at the Lange datograph?

Basically said tongue in cheek. I can never understand these posts. Some one willing to fork out close to 100k on soem strangers say so..... Go figure Julian

Why do you consider Patek even "as little bit of investment"?

 By: Aussie : April 19th, 2009-20:53
Do you want to end up with a small fortune, then spend a big fortune as an investment in Pateks. Buy what makes you smile. If you are looking for "value" then imo a Patek model which you can buy and keep for several years, then sell for what you paid, tha...

watch investment

I can't afford one now, but have been collecting antiques, seeded with an Aunt's collection, coins, clocks, now snooping around the watch industry. I didn't realize that the markup is 100 percent. But that's normal for luxury items including antiques. Whe...

I will give you a personal answer

If I could only buy one, it would probably be the 5070P, with the idea that I also still would have $35K or so in my pocket. You probably won't use either 5070P or 5970G as a daily wearer, so you could put the extra $ toward a 5980 and you will have an ul...

thank you......

 By: hooscar : April 19th, 2009-21:30
Thank you for the advise, I think I should not say "investment", I probably meant which one will be more hard to find in the future, (more rare). I already have the 5980 and 5960P...... What I think about the 5070P, it is very nice but compare to the pric...

Not sure what you mean "for people like me"

If you have the 135k then buy it Julian

People like me.........

 By: hooscar : April 20th, 2009-07:53
"People like me" meant the AD will tell me I am on the list and even take deposit but will never see the watch.

Oscar the question is not " which is more collectible ", BUT

 By: amanico : April 19th, 2009-22:11
Which one do I prefer. " Collectible " refers to others opinion, while your pleasure is very personal, ansd at the end you will be the one to wear, to live with your watch. With the collection you have, you can go on both of these PP, as you already own 2...

Depends...

If your looking simply at a rarity factor, then the 5070P would take that category. However, sorry no offense to existing 5070P owners, but I find the 5970 a more beautfiful watch. I love chronographs, have owned several, but when in doubt, I tend to go f...

Maybe I'm wrong...

 By: CL : April 20th, 2009-07:52
and I do hope I'm wrong, many Patek collectors seem to care way too much about how rare this particular metal /dial is in a particular watch reference, so they should get that one. This is one thing I really do not understand. Why bother about getting a w...

Love that pic of your 5970

Arthur--tell me about that strap. Is it navy blue?

It's Patek Navy blue strap (from a 5296)...

Here's a couple more shots , trying to capture the deep Navy blue color of the strap, and how it picks up the blue of the moon-phase (lighting wasn't the greatest): " border=0 alt="Hosting provided by FotoTime"> angled wrist shot " border=0 alt="Hosting p...

simply beautiful :-)

The 5970G I would love to own that watch anytime over a 5070. Arthur, thanks for posting once again photos of your stunning watch.

Thx topcat...

There are several things about the 5070 that I don't care for. 1. The arabic numerals on the dial, some of which are cut off 2. The case seems oddly proportioned--width to height 3. The case is a bit large at 42mm unless you have a large wrist. 4. The wid...
