DELAYED POST # 1,000

 By: dr.kol : March 6th, 2012-14:53
TWO VERY DIFFERENT WATCHES with many similarities. Both of the watches are: * Manufactured by a Top Brand * Made of white gold * With blue dial * Very rare versions * In my opinion real bargains * Iconic representatives of the Manufacturer * As New share ...

After much careful consideration

 By: Miranda : March 6th, 2012-16:12
I cannot choose So similar yet so different I looked at them and thought Wow if you had to have only two prestigious Watches this would be them Really loved your pics Love your taste And many congrats on such an awesome Pair Best Imran

Thank you Imran,

same with me - I really can't decide. It is clear that Golden Ellipse is the winner for a black tie party but Lange is unbeatable when dealing with i.e. technocrats. Both watches have their place. Best, Kari

Wow, and what a Patek! [nt]

I was thinking about you when posting

 By: dr.kol : March 6th, 2012-21:13
but I was sure that you would say something about Lange. However, you are safe because both of the watches are far too small to your taste. Best, Kari

That is the unfortunate side of matters

 By: BluNotte : March 7th, 2012-16:54
As the dials colour would have been very appealing to me. Thanks for sharing these anyhows! Stephen

fore sure the Lange

 By: ivanclai : March 6th, 2012-19:18
always like the Lange 1, such an icon. the blue dial in whtie gold makes it more "cool", more Germanic. Just out of interest, I believe these 2 models are still in production, right? your acq cost is only a fraction of the current list price, it must be a...

Both watches are still in production BUT

 By: dr.kol : March 6th, 2012-21:17
NOT with blue dial . You can find Golden Ellipse in platinum with blue gold dial but the watch is a bit bigger and it's probably the most expensive time only watch available. Best, Kari

two eye candies...

 By: Amine : March 6th, 2012-22:13
...and each has its own charm, but my heart falls for the Lange as it was mentioned above...the dial color combined with the silver hands and big date makes this thing so desirable, i have the white gold white dial version.

Me too...

I have loved Lange 1 since its introduction 18 years ago and it has been an icon since then. What makes the issue complicated is that Golden Ellipse has been an icon for 44 years now. Best, Kari

Congratulations on Post n°1000

 By: grigo : March 6th, 2012-22:47
Now to answer your question, I would choose the Lange, not that the Patek is not nice it is just that I always loved the Lange. Thus if I were going to get one of the two, my choice would go to the Lange first. I do like the idea that Patek permits you to...

I still have to visit a Lange Boutique,

 By: dr.kol : March 7th, 2012-01:20
perhaps they make some nice cuff links. Just last Saturday I found for one of my dress watches cuff links from the manufacturer and those fit perfectly with the watch. Best, Kari

Nice 1000th one, my friend.

 By: amanico : March 6th, 2012-23:26
To answer your question, I would go for the Lange, because I am more confortable with its conventiona round case. But I can understand your love for the Patek. A great pair, to celebrate your 1000th post. And a pleasure to have you among us. All the best,...

Thanks for the great posting. [nt]

What a superb post to mark your 1,000 contribution

 By: Topcat30093 : March 7th, 2012-00:35
I very much enjoyed reading your thread and could hear the passion in your words regarding these two pieces. Between the Patek and the Lange & Sohne my choice would be for the latter. I have always admired the Lange One and in this guise it looks incredib...

I guessed that you would choose Lange.

 By: dr.kol : March 7th, 2012-01:26
At the same time I'm expecting that at least one would pick Golden Ellipse before Lange. For me Golden Ellipse is like a complex French wine. You really have to concentrate in order to understand the finesse of the same. Another issue is that Golden Ellip...

Hi Kari, great [post, tough decision for me

 By: watch-guy.com : March 7th, 2012-01:58
Being a die hard true blue Patek fan , i would lean towards the ellipse but that Lange also sings to me. I suspect I would still choose the Patek but it would be difficult. Did you look at the platinum model of the Ellipse- I reckon that would be an amazi...

The platinum Ellipse was on my list...

 By: dr.kol : March 7th, 2012-02:26
but in the end I found it too big! This is a little bit difficult to explain as a 39.5 mm high watch is not too big on my 200 mm wrist. Somehow this platinum version just feels like a stupidly big thin plate on the wrist and in a way I can't explain it's ...

I choose the Patek for the opera and the Lange for a rock concert

By: COUNT DE MONET : March 7th, 2012-05:35
Very nice post number 1000! As a coloured metal loving guy I must say that these two models are quite tempting. A blue dialed Lange is indeed not so often seen and makes it all look a bit "fresh". The Ellipse is in my opinion Patek's most elegant creation...

I was wrong!

 By: dr.kol : March 7th, 2012-05:39
I believed that I could trust on you. However, I could not take rock concerts into account because I thought the nobel people like Counts listen just the classic music. But like I said earlier, it is very difficult to choose between these two. That's why ...

Yes,

 By: dr.kol : March 7th, 2012-05:49
even Prince Harry was dancing some kind of rock in Jamaica. I made a wrong judgement, sorry. Kari

Green... But blue in envy ...

 By: Greenwatch : March 7th, 2012-17:27
I love the way you passionately go about understanding and determining what you really like in a watch, did the hunt, took the double plunge, have those watches serviced, accounted for the total cost while comparing them against today's retail price, and ...

Thank you for the response.

 By: dr.kol : March 7th, 2012-21:49
I decided to use Lange 1 and Golden Ellipse in my post because those watches are generally seen in such a different way. Somehow Golden Ellipse is out of fashion, it is by no ways "a racing machine on the wrist" or "fusion on land and sky". This means tha...

What a Rhapsody :) !

 By: cisco : March 8th, 2012-03:57
I love this L1 my preferred one (equal with platinum grey dial ) And the Ellipse has a lot fo Style. Thanks for sharing these two beauties ! Francois

For the choice

 By: cisco : March 8th, 2012-03:59
Hmmm, tough one. I love the Ellipse but for the amazing quality Lange gives and because it is already an Icon and that I deeply love this version I would choose the Lange 1

I also love platinum

 By: dr.kol : March 8th, 2012-08:20
but in the case of Lange 1, I preferred white gold with blue dial. In metal it's cool! Best, Kari

Both are amazing imho

 By: cisco : March 8th, 2012-11:22
And like you I truly love the deep blue too, my 1815 is a white gold of that color Francois

Nicely done, Kari! Congrats and thx. [nt]

First of all, please accept my sincere congratulations for your 1000th post. I've always found your contributions friendly, respectful and informative. Can I say you must be a very pleasant person, besides being a expert, tasteful and passionate watch col...

Thank you Elio for your kind word.

 By: dr.kol : March 9th, 2012-11:20
Your message was like a poet, especially what you said about Golden Ellipse. I also agree with your comments about Lange 1. In my opinion the only way to improve it would have been a platinum case with the same blue dial. Best, Kari

Congratulations on your acquisition

 By: CaptainCrunch : March 16th, 2016-19:46
What can I say? Both spectacular pick. I really like the blue dial on Patek but that Lange is something else. Personally if I were to get a Lange, this will be the one. Best layout and this blue just puts it royally over the top. Congrats and enjoy in goo...

Two beautiful watches

 By: hewitgar : March 20th, 2016-09:39
maybe you might add a 5070P for a trio of blue dialled white metal awesomeness!? Wear them both in the best of health. Gary

The white and blue combo I wear most

 By: dr.kol : March 20th, 2016-13:04
is my 5070P. Best, Kari
