5270R - What's not to love about this beauty?

 By: Pretty Boy : June 7th, 2017-05:57
I attended a presentation of Patek's 2017 novelties last week organized by my AD. After I saw 5320G and 5170P in the metal, I wasn't entirely convinced by either of them, for different reasons of course (although I would prefer 5170P over 5320G). Yesterda...

Nothing

 By: watch-er : June 7th, 2017-06:02
It is really a perfect watch in every way. The watch market is just not what it was a few years back. Otherwise, these would be very scarce and hard to get.

Cheers.

 By: Pretty Boy : June 7th, 2017-06:11
Your comment regarding the watch market is fair for sure, but there are also some particular circumstances here ;-)

I too agree...nothing

 By: JBP99P : June 7th, 2017-06:53
though I could be considered biased as I have one on order which I have been told should arrive end of August/early September having sold my 5170G and 5960/1A to partly fund it. I chose it because for me it represents one of the best watches PP currently ...

I love everything about that watch.

Buy it and cherish it forever (and post lots of pictures)

I would call that a grail piece

Stunning!

Absolutely nothing wrong with a 5270r however,

 By: Miles_151 : June 7th, 2017-07:11
In my mind and I'm sure in many minds here it's more of a question of 5270 V 5970 If I had to choose between these 2 watches for me it's a No Brainer. 5970 for all the reasons I fell in love with Patek. This said I love the 5270r very much and will do my ...

Well for me I like the 5270R in preference to the 5970...

 By: JBP99P : June 7th, 2017-07:22
like I chose the 5170 over the 5070 but that's just me plus there's the appeal of buying one new with my name on the papers etc

I read the recent posts comparing 5970 and 5270, and also the article about 5970 in the current Patek magazine.

 By: Pretty Boy : June 7th, 2017-11:35
At that price level, however, I would only buy from my AD or a Patek Salon, unless I found 5970 way better than 5270 which clearly isn't the case.

"Clearly isn't the case "

 By: Miles_151 : June 7th, 2017-12:06
Please enlighten me as to why this would be clearly??? M.

Beautiful watch

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 7th, 2017-07:59
And particularly in that metal. One drawback for me: portholes. Same reason I prefer 3448 to 3450. But classy watch for sure.

Ahhhhh it all becomes clear now

 By: Miles_151 : June 7th, 2017-08:09
That why you dislike the 5960p(boxter) so much. It's the Am/pm portholes. That makes sense. 😉. M.

I do not like portholes

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 7th, 2017-08:35
They spoil the symmetry for me.

I like them!

By: COUNT DE MONET : June 8th, 2017-09:46
They are tickling my "watch nerd senses", a lot !

just a taste thing.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 8th, 2017-09:51
......for me, the dial needs to be an aesthetic that is cohesive to me. The holes are disruptive to my aesthetic. How are you doing? How is the patent coming?

Thank you for asking

By: COUNT DE MONET : June 8th, 2017-10:10
The patent examination report has arrived and according to my patent lawyer it is looking good to get the patent. The whole process will take at least three to four years before the patent document is in my hands. But I am hopeful and have already placed ...

Congratulations

That is great news. Congratulations

That's a fantastic Chrono-QP reference

By: Mark in Paris : June 7th, 2017-08:20
and I must say that it is my favorite today if we put aside the 1518 and 2499. I made a review here if you want: www.watchprosite.com This is in many ways and also in terms of aesthetics close to perfection as far as I'm concerned. It is very diff...

Many thanks for your comprehensive reply, Mark. Much appreciated.

 By: Pretty Boy : June 7th, 2017-11:51
Yes, I read your review of 5270, and I fully agree with your assessment above. The 5270 indeed represents a more modern approach, and I also really like the warmth of the YG and the case diameter of 41 mm.

5270 is a fantastic choice

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 7th, 2017-08:41
But like Miles and Nicolas, I would (and did) go for the 5970 in preference. My recent post went through the analysis. Ultimately boils down to what rings your bell.

Cheers. Read your analysis and, like you did, would go for 5970P if 5970 was my choice.

 By: Pretty Boy : June 7th, 2017-11:59
Not only that I probably like 5270 better, I also wouldn't buy from anyone else than my AD or a Patek Salon at that price level. This takes 5970 out of the game.

Cheers! [nt]

Perfect watch

 By: beejo : June 7th, 2017-11:54
But the 5970R is more to my taste and the size would look better on my wrist. Best, Ahmed

Thanks, Ahmed.

 By: Pretty Boy : June 7th, 2017-12:13
Strangely (or not), Miles also mentioned the case size. I tend to prefer bigger case diameters (40 mm +), although I liked 5170P on my wrist which is 39,4 mm. Looking at the photos, 5270 indeed looks quite large on my wrist. When I personally looked at it...

It looks good on your wrist

 By: beejo : June 7th, 2017-12:34
Don't get me wrong,But I believe the 5970 will look even how I feel,But you are one who's going to wear it at the end. Best, Ahmed

If this watch

 By: sham1 : June 7th, 2017-16:38
fits your wrist (and in the photo it clearly does), buy it as in my opinion, it is the best Patek for sale under £200k. For a start the patina on the dial is as close to perfection as a dial colour could be. The movement is what Patek are famous for - the...

Thanks a lot for your reply.

 By: Pretty Boy : June 7th, 2017-23:44
Have you tried 5230G? I know it is 40 mm but on my wrist it wore noticeably smaller than 5170P with its 39.4 mm.

Jut checking

 By: sham1 : June 8th, 2017-05:54
but did you say 5230G?? Is that not the new world timer in 38.5mm?

Ah that one!

 By: sham1 : June 8th, 2017-14:27
I tried it at Basel and was probably one of the unimpressed few

I tried it last week and wasn't impressed either.

 By: Pretty Boy : June 8th, 2017-14:49
Liked 5170P better but none of these comes close to 5270 or 5970, IMO.

DNA wise its got all the qualities you look for in a complicated watch.

 By: geross : June 7th, 2017-16:41
Just beautiful , i believe a joy to wind and wear. Best wishes. Wear in good health and while driving your Porsche. Geross.

Cheers, amigo.

 By: Pretty Boy : June 7th, 2017-23:46
Maybe I have to trade the 911 for this beauty ;-).

Balance is what makes it so

 By: Blesk : June 7th, 2017-17:50
I totally agree - just about perfect in every way. The complications are impressive, but not overbearing. The size and height are decent, but not bulky or flimsy. Even the symmetrical balance of the face is so even. I find the 3970 a bit too small but the...

I have a 5970R and I love the watch...

 By: Dave G : June 8th, 2017-07:48
As others have noted, the layout, size and general appeal are great. I go back and forth on whether I prefer the WG version....certainly platinum would be top of list. Dave

Hey G ain't too bad either.
