5131G

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 7th, 2010-02:19
At the weekend, i had a visitor to stay who had with him a sealed 5131G. Over a bottle of some Mouton Rothschild (he needed a little persuasion to open it!!!) , he carefully broke the seal and unveiled this classic watch. I have to say that the watch had ...

5131

very very nice...

& very expensive too!

 By: snipermaverick : June 7th, 2010-04:00
>US$50k!

Don't know what to think about the 5131...

 By: amanico : June 7th, 2010-05:07
I'm a sucker for enamel dials, and on the 5131, the dial is really superb, warm, with a delicious cissor hand. That was the version I was expecting for a long time, from PP. Ok, it is not a flawless watch: The enamel dial looks a bit too small, the typo o...

I agree on the engraving...

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 7th, 2010-05:14
Yes, it is a shame that they had to engrave PPP on it...totally unnecessary. However, the blue on teh enamel is breathtaking, and i can forgive it the engraving! I do wonder how many of the original owners choose to flip. My guest did not buy his through ...

I forgot to mention that I never saw one in the flesh...

 By: amanico : June 7th, 2010-05:20
And that I would love to! Mainly to judge the impact of the engraved bezel on the appeal of the whole watch. Totally agree with you, Mr Baron: Some great watches are born with some flaws. Isn't this called " Charm " ? Best, Nicolas

Do not....

 By: MiniCooper : June 7th, 2010-10:37
Forget the 5070..... Cheers

Just wait for only

 By: dr.kol : May 30th, 2013-07:02
six more days. But shave your wrist! I do not want scratches to my new watch - even to the back side... Best, Kari

worth the wait

 By: GLau : May 30th, 2013-10:07
Hi Kari, It is well worth the wait when you get it on your wrist !! Enjoy soon. Cheers, Gordon

True,

 By: dr.kol : May 30th, 2013-11:26
the watch will stay on my writs for a while - at least till the honeymoon is over. Best, Kari

I Completely Concur...

 By: patrick_y : June 7th, 2010-09:23
I completely concur with Nicolas' statements above. I am a big fan of enameling (grand feu, cell enamel, and enamel paintings) so I will almost like anything with enamel work on it. Not a big fan of the engraving on the bezel. But I can live with it. But ...

Does anyone know the "real story" behind the 5131's enamel dial

 By: Aussie : June 7th, 2010-06:07
I heard soo many conflicting stories and rumors. To me this world time reference is a work of art with each dial being unique. I cannot help but wonder how many collectors have acquired this masterpiece directly from their AD at list without paying a king...

Yes... i heard so many rumours about the enamelling problems....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 7th, 2010-06:36
The thing is, if this watch was available to me at list price I would still not buy it. That sounds weird after i have already stated that teh watch is breathtaking on the wrist and one of the most beautiful. But is it not possible to admire something wit...

Nico .... ??

 By: tic-toc : June 7th, 2010-07:27
Not the great chef Nico from UK ?? Are you referring to him ?? AS for this Patek 5131G or J, is this dial really worth the premium ?? I personally think VC has made some extrodinary enamel dial wristwatches with also writings on them " Mercator ", not to ...

No, not that Nico...

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 7th, 2010-07:28
more famous than him!!

Although I am not the " Great Chief " from UK...

 By: amanico : June 7th, 2010-07:40
I would also consider a visit to my AD if he called me for this 5131G... Dreaming is free, as I tjink any PP AD would consider calling a lot of people before me. Your comparison with the Mercator, and especially the cloisonné model, is meaningful. Bu...

Well, 5131 is different

 By: schen : June 7th, 2010-09:48
...from 5960 and 5980. IMHO, the latter are meant to be "mass" produced. 5131 is not and can't be. Its enamel dial is very difficult to make. Although we see more 5131s showing up now, I doubt in the end there will be many in total. So I want to congratul...

I'd like to hear...

 By: bsodmike : June 9th, 2013-05:44
your thoughts on the 5130 WT? I particularly like the hands on this model and te guilloche work in the middle is quite nice. I'm quite tempted by the 5130R or possibly the 5130P.

The 5130 World Time is a great reference...

 By: GLau : June 9th, 2013-09:24
... because of several reasons: 1) same useful world time function as the 5131, 2) very cool looking blue dial with sunburst guilloche, and 3) very stylish on the wrist. Between the R and P, you should view the two dials under different lighting to see wh...

I am not certain....

 By: MiniCooper : June 7th, 2010-10:55
abou the 5980, but the 5960 is still hard to find.... Cheers

Correcting myself....

 By: MiniCooper : June 7th, 2010-10:57
5980 is also hard to find and quite an interesting watch (with a very high price unfortunately) Cheers

5980 and 5960 WERE hard to find...

 By: amanico : June 7th, 2010-11:32
They ARE not hard to find anymore. That was the meaning of the post you answered to. Best, Nicolas

Well....

 By: MiniCooper : June 7th, 2010-12:02
At least where I live they are still hard to find... Cheers

Last time I was at the Paris Salon

 By: Dje : June 7th, 2010-12:49
Hi, Last time I was at the Paris salon, both watches were available. I don't know if that's still the case or not (I've already tried on a 5070R available at the Paris salon too, it's no longer available, for this one I'm sure ). Cheers Dje

I tried....

Three two different ads here and they did not have either... Cheers

Thank you

 By: Dje : June 7th, 2010-07:53
Hi, Great experience! I've had this watch on my wrist and no doubt if I had the money and the opportunity (this one is for you Nicolas) I would kill my bank account! IMVHO there's no point trying to make oneself a definitive opinion without having had it ...

Hi Baron, Sounds like you are referring to Nico Rosberg. No?

close....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 7th, 2010-08:18
he certainly drives his car like that

That gave me a laugh! [nt]

No message body

Interesting.....

 By: MiniCooper : June 7th, 2010-10:46
But where is the wristshot??? An interesting watch indeed.... Although enamel dials are not really my cup of tea... I will Take Dje's word that you really have to see it on your hand.... Hopefully I will be able to.... Cheers

Here's one of the wrist-shots....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 7th, 2010-11:23
But not a good one of the watch.......

Thank you....

 By: MiniCooper : June 7th, 2010-11:27
Should I assume that there are more to come? Cheers

Last one.... until my guest visits again

Is a stunner and really shows the brilliant colours. But that all said, it would not be for me.

Thanks a lot for the pics !

5131 G still is my dream watch.Did You realize a strange thing: Although PP checks everyone who tries to get one and hardly any pieces are around, there are already 5 offered by grey market dealers,4 x5131J and one 5131 G,at astronomic prices. A Syrian gre...

Just because they say they have it is only talk. btw ..

 By: Aussie : June 9th, 2010-09:36
I recall you or a relative (friend) were to receive the 5131. What ever happened?

because hot watches attract flippers....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 9th, 2010-09:43
and even respectable collectors can become temporary flippers when they see a watch they paid £35k for get bid at £100k for.

With no disrespect to you Baron, .. but any real Patek collector who

 By: Aussie : June 9th, 2010-11:33
acquires a 5131 is a fool in my book to ever sell it. To purchase a 5131 at list happens rarely enough in a lifetime. To ever acquire a second one defies reality.

there is no disrespect to me...

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 9th, 2010-12:39
as i neither bought one from an AD or even tried....and i most certainly didn't look at one in the 2nd market. However, given that so often one has to buy watches from PP without getting a good chance to really try it out on the wrist, is it not possible ...

I do agree what you are stating ..

 By: Aussie : June 9th, 2010-14:40
the term " in my book" is a slang term which means "in my opinion". I have owned the 5110P which I traded to the original AD I purchased from 7 years before for a 5130P. I sold the 5130P to make room for the 5131 which I am still dreaming of ( I guess I j...

About two years ago, i bought my patek 3969PT jump hour, if i am correct to quote, only 50 pcs made in PT, 450 pcs made in RG. All in all, it took me 19 years for the wait before i have the chance to buy this watch. I remember when they first came out, it...

5131G went for 244'000.00 US!!! Unbelievable... They write in their catalogue that it is discontinued, still on their homepage and delivering a few last pieces. Does anybody of you confirm this rumor?

Incredible!

 By: dr.kol : May 31st, 2013-04:24

so strange from christie....

 By: Fricks : May 31st, 2013-14:15
.... wrong statement, its obviously not discontinued. Another proof is Kari receiving his in a few days. price is really exaggerated, something weird as they are a few on 2nd market trading around 130k usd.

My watch came to the shop some 2 weeks ago.

 By: dr.kol : May 31st, 2013-14:29
I simply did not have time to pick it up earlier. If they would stop "G" and replace it with "P", it wouldn't be too bad. Or would it? Best, Kari

You will be very happy ...
