I am a relative 'newbie' in the watch world,
but I have been thinking for some time now that PP might replace the 5960 soon as that would support the value of this watch and would support whatever watch replaced it in the lineup as well. It seems to me that an attractive aspect of PP is the exclusivity of the watches they sell and the 5960 price has been softening in the recent past. Even though other PP models have also softened, it wouldn't surprise me to see the 5960 evolve into a new reference at the upcoming Basel show. I guess we will see how they choose to handle it this spring.

I wish I knew. I am not sure anyone knows things like this until Patek makes an announcement. I can tell you that it's a GREAT watch and very wearable. Enjoy, Calfee

Its a cash cow for patek. There might be other metal coming in line this year. Will see in Basel 2009.
I am going to go on a (guessing) limb here.
The fact that we saw no other metals and 5960 was only in platinum in Basel 2006, 2007 and 2008 leaves me suspicious 1) Patek comes out with rarely with platinum version first (usually some colors of gold go fist) 2) I cannot think of any recent reference...

Keep the watch available only in Platinum; no need to offer it in other metals because of a softer market. If you run a private, exclusive company, your goals are not quarter to quarter but long term
