Hi all - I’m thinking of trading my 5196P for a 6119R. Do people here have views pro or con? And for those of you who’ve seen the 6119 in the metal, does it wear appreciably larger? In this case, the extra size is not necessarily an advantage — I have thi...

As an owner for 5196P...

I'm keeping this classic. The look of the 5196P resembles a museum piece and with the age of this family in the catalog, I think it won't last long. It's just me, but I'm clueless

Not a chance. 5196P is a forever classic.

The 6119, who knows… And 5196P is way more wearable. Dress up or down. 6119 with its hobnail bezel is very dressy, flashy and for me a bit of an acquired taste.

Just no way!

Any other version other than 5196P and I'd give this trade some thought.

However it is a 5196 P, so I'd give this trade no thought.

Thanks everyone!

Must say I’m surprised by the unanimity, particularly given the generally favorable reaction to the 6119. You have given me new appreciation for what I have!

An interesting trade of a classic classy piece for a ...

new classy reference ! Size and money aside, IMO it depends on whether you prefer Brequet numerals or Clous de Paris bezel. Good luck with your decision and let us know what you decide.

First of all I would ask myself

why I think of such a change? Doesn’t your 5196P get enough wrist time? What do you like about the 6119R? Is it the bezel, the dial? From my point of view, this hobby is about a lot of emotions. I would throw all strategic, intellectual considerations ove...

I agree …

that these choices are all about emotion. In my case, a dominant emotion is all-too-often a desire to mix thing a up a bit by trading one price for a new, unfamiliar one; I’d trade rather than buy outright because this seems like a crazy time to invest a ...

We might have pro's and con's, but they are not yours ;)

That said, the 5196 in P is a very special reference since it is a clasic Calatrava in the descendence of the ref. 96 and a today classic 215 caliber that is imho nicer drawn than the new handwound of the 6119. Otoh, the 6119 has a new caliber with better...

I covet your 96!

Don’t see many of those for sale these days. I suspect it would be perfect for me.

No brainer. Keep the 5196p

It is a classic. M.

I might just keep the 5196P.

Like the case style of 96 more and like the cal. 215 more. This being said, I do recognise that the positioning of the small second hand of 5196 always remind me of the small size of 215. If there would be a new reference with the similar case and dial de...
