5960R aging

Mar 10, 2013,14:27 PM

I was wondering what others thought of how the 5960R with grey dial was aging now that they are about six years old. Last year when Patek switched to a monochrome dial it made me wonder if they felt the two-tone dial was looking dated.   If I recall correctly it had mixed reviews some loved while others hated and not many  on the fence. The new dials while in keeping with a more classic look also seem to be a way of playing it safe and going back to it's Patek roots in terms of dial design. Will we likely look back at this watch in ten years and say great complication but that dial was Patek's version of the bell bottom, very hot and then not so much? I still find it to be very cool and it has grown on me but then again I'm not looking at it on my wrist every day. Hugh

... its a personal opinion, but i always saw it as the young sister of the 5101R. The dial has a plus that the new one don't have : The bull's eye. The feel of the watch is very different of the new opaline dial. Feels like another watch. Its a matter of ...

Could very well be true.

But the 5960r with gray dial looks outstanding and when the monochrome dials came out, I thought to myself...why? Rose with gray dials are very appealing and that piece has a lot more "pop" on the wrist than the latter dials.

Who cares, as long as you like it? To me the different dials are like different spices and I like to have options like that. My favorite version (at the moment :-) ) is RG with black dial - even when it doesn´t fit to my lifestyle, it is just beautiful. W...

... most of the ones i know that own a 5960, have more than 1. Or both platinum or platinum and Rg, or the 3. I find more confusing and it creates a dilemma when i must choose what to wear, when i was looking at my Rg sitting next to my Platinum, 9 out of...

Why so serious? Why do you ask?

The 5960R was introduced a few months into 2009. By my count, that was four years ago. Either ways, you said "about six years old" so it could be a miscalculation, but if you're able to see things two years before anyone else sees them, I'd be intrigued. ...

You are correct, the 5960R came out in 09 and the 5960P in 06. That must be where I made my miscalculation. No, I can't see things two years before anyone else but should have predicted a condescending response from someone who sleeps, eats and lives for ...

You're right about everything...

You're right, people did express criticism about the bullseye dial, but that was more limited to the 5960P when the 5960P came out. It wasn't a big deal of the R. I wouldn't say I live/eat/breath watches yet. But then again, they say the alcoholic never t...
