Buyer’s remorse on a 5212a purchase

I received the call from my AD that he had a 5212a I had first dibs on. I was out of town so couldn’t go in to try it on. Made decision to buy it since they’re hard to come by and AD likely wouldn’t receive another one for rest of year. I’ve posted up bef...

+1, I personally loved it (and my girlfriend too, at some point she even wanted to ask for one!) but it’s a very particular piece hence in the end it’s definitely a matter of taste👍

That happens to all of us. A few years ago I bought a special edition Panerai, didn’t bond with it, wore it twice in 5 years, and eventually sold it.

I don't really think you are crazy, but rather let me thank you for your honest feedback on this piece....While this is a Patek most collectors love and would be very thankful to be allocated, in the end, very simply, it's always a matter of taste! :-)

Yep, like I said below I think the only option is to formally resell it as “used” (they won’t get a new certificate), but I’m sure Patek would approve😉👍

I know, the demand has been quite crazy for it in the past 3 years...Should he decide to return it rather than resell it, I'm sure Patek will also keep it into account ;-)

Nope, I’m afraid you cannot request a new warranty (the watch was officially sold). But I’m sure all involved would still appreciate — from the new owner (who should be informed and receive a 5212 at MSRP), to the AD (who won’t get in trouble)..

So does that mean the AD takes it back and then turns around and sells at mark up as used?? That would be messed up

Nope, you should definitely talk to them and to Patek, but the AD shouldn’t obviously make a cent more out of this!😉The new (and still lucky!) owner would be getting a “used” watch at MSRP, the only way around given that a sale formally took place👍

PS: The point here is obviously not for the AD to make a profit in your place, but for one more lucky individual to access a 5212 at MSRP rather than at market value😉👍

Oh yes, what I suggested is definitely what I would do, and frankly, also what an AD should advise if a client doesn't want to keep this piece....but flipping it and making $20k+ on the grey market *within minutes* does legally remain an option ;-)

In this case, you should have not bought it, in my opinion. There are s many other nice watches to get.

It’s these types of photos that made me so excited to get a chance at the 5212! It looks awesome on so May different types of straps. I have a few waxed canvas straps coming in various colors so I’ll see if that changes my opinion. Thanks for the pics!

I personally live this reference and hope it grows on you. That said this is very subjective I know…. Try to see online if you find compelling strap combos with this reference you like…
